Housing Stability Ideation

Created by Bridgett McAllister, Jeffry Mateo, & Will Streissguth

In July, the Innovation Team hosted three community ideation sessions around Housing Stability. During these sessions, the team spoke with residents about their housing stability challenges in Syracuse and what they thought could be done to start to address them.

The sessions were set up around three challenge statement stations, each a contributing factor to housing instability in Syracuse:

  • Housing Quality: Houses are in poor condition and costly to repair.

  • Housing Cost: Housing costs are high relative to many residents’ incomes.

  • Housing Information: Housing information and resources are hard to find.

Each station had a persona to give background on the challenge, facts and figures on the challenge, and activities to allow residents and community members to submit feedback and ideas. Examples of the information provided at the sessions can be found below.

Moving forward, the i-team will be developing a portfolio of initiatives based on the ideas and feedback from these sessions, as well as best practices from other cities, to help lower the transiency rate of Syracuse residents and improve housing stability in the city.
